It's yet another bright Saturday morning. I believe most of us had been through the heavy rain these few days since August falls in the midst of the Southwest Monsoon Season (June - September). After browsing through the NEA website on Singapore's weather characteristics, I just learnt that Singapore's weather only consists of 4 months of inter-monsoon season (April - May, October - November). In other words, it spells that we, as a citizen living in this cosmopolitan island, gets to experience 8 months of monsoon season (which is twice of that of the inter-monsoon season).
So what exactly is the reason behind the Southwest Monsoon? Firstly, it is mainly caused by the "Sumatra" Squalls which develops at night over Sumatra or the Straits of Malacca. By predawn and the wee hours of the morning, it would have reached Singapore which clearly explains why most of the heavy rains during this particular monsoon period occurs early in the morning. Now, I don't like the idea of it. Why? This is because heavy rains in the morning would meant that I would tend to procrastinate to get up from the bed. So what happens after that? I would either be late for work or late for school, how's it?
To add on, the worst has yet to come. According to reports, there would be episodes of widespread prolonged haze towards the latter part of the Southwest Monsoon Season, which is predicted to be in the month of September. Thus, poor visibility in the wee hours of morning may be common and certain level of precaution should be taken into account when you are out for work or school. However, showers should be cleared by early afternoon once the "Sumatra" Squalls had passed.
Now that you've know, its time to keep all those summer apparels away and perhaps a throwover would do the job to keep you from the rain.
Anyway, I would not be able to blog so often as of today, since my scheduled mooncake job would be commencing tomorrow. Best of luck! Enjoy your weekends!
